Don't quote me

“Life is what you make it.”
“It’s never too late to be what you could have been.”
“In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.”

Powerful stuff, right? When I’m down and feeling like shit, nothing kicks me in the ass like a well-crafted, good-intentioned inspirational quote — especially if it was said by somebody famous! Or even better — dead!

Fuck that.

Sure, inspirational quotes are sweet and nice and, on occasion, even inspiring. I have some pasted up on my walls at work. (I just glanced over at one and it inspired me to write this rant.) I write them down in notebooks that I’ll probably never open again. And if I feel like forcing my favorite words of wisdom down other peoples’ throats, I might even post a favorite quote on facebook.

But there are days when I absolutely fucking hate inspirational quotes. There are days when I want to face punch anybody, past or present, responsible for the spread of inspiration or motivation in any shape or form.

Because some days inspirational quotes make absolutely no fucking sense. No matter how many times you read them, they don’t say or mean a thing. Some days they’re just words.

Today is one of those days.

Some days real life hits a little harder than a bunch of words on paper. And that my friends, “Is what it is,” because “The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows.”

But good news, “There’s always tomorrow for dreams to come true.” Probably.

Whatever.

    1. Ha! Never even thought of that little correlation. Maybe I'll look at those tomorrow when I'm in a better mood.
